Newman Branch Update
It’s been a flurry of activity for our Rental Manager, Dave Costa, as he oversees the establishment of our Newman office. The yards been cleared and the administration buildings will shortly be painted and new signage erected. Additionally site work has started for the installation of a new wash pad facility.
The Newman site is a real boon allowing us to be in close proximity to many of our long-term clients and their key projects. In recent weeks we’ve delivered 2 x semi water trucks to a valued client at Cloudbreak in the Pilbara, undertaken a site visit and introduction at Eliwana and worked with a client from Solomon to deliver a 4x4 truck bus and collect an 8x4 tilt tray for its 12 month inspection, (due to COVID-19 lockdown restrictions the client was not able to leave the site). Of course, Dave had to stop off and catch the majestic Karijini Falls on the journey back.
Grader Custom Rebuild
Our mechanics at Proffit St, have been doing an amazing custom rebuild on a 16M grader. Working in close collaboration with the OEM over the past month, the grader (purchased earlier in 2020) has been stripped to the frame to allow crack testing and line boring, prior to the major components (engine, diff transmission) being sent out to the OEM for a complete overhaul. The OEM has also worked alongside the Axis crew in the re-assembly to ensure full conformity as a certified rebuild status unit.
Truck for fire fighting
We were fortunate to be able to lend a hand in fighting some dangerous bushfires east of Northam, prior to the Easter break. Axis provided an Isuzu 8x4 Water Cart to assist the volunteer fire team battling blazes and urgently doing backburning to prevent the spread.
Thanks to all the professional and volunteer fire fighters who do such an amazing job for all of us.
Opening of the Newman office
We’re delighted to announce the opening of our Newman office. Having worked with so many enterprises in this region and having shipped numerous fleet equipment to projects in the Norwest, we’ve had our eye on opening a site in Newman, where we can have a permanent presence and most importantly house stock.
Our Rental Manager Dave Costa has recently relocated to Newman with his family, to oversee the development of the business and coordinate equipment logistics, storage and mobilisation to our clients in the region.
As a new member of the Newman Chamber of Commerce and Industry Dave looks forward to strengthening existing partnerships and forming new ties. This expansion is an important step in our focus to further grow Axis’ profile and standing and will enable us to provide a more structured and personalised approach to our clients in the Pilbara. Newman now gives Axis even greater flexibility and mobility in the Norwest and Dave looks forward to starting many new conversations with mining and civil businesses, with local operations.
Poole St site expansion in Welshpool
In late 2019 we acquired the adjacent block of land on the Eastern side of our Welshpool facility, which Axis Hire shares with our sister business Axle Hire. This extension will give us the ability to hold a range of heavier equipment including some of our civil and earthmoving and heavy truck equipment, in addition to the wide range of prime movers, rigid trucks and trailers housed by Axle Hire.
The site is about to undergo a signage upgrade, where we will segment the large and small equipment and utilise the Orrong Rd positioning for enhanced visibility.
Axis’ young equipment fleet
One of the hallmarks of Axis’ fleet is the very low average hour usage of our equipment fleet, comparative to most other providers. We have been fortunate enough to be able to build a diverse fleet, which we have been able to upgrade at regular intervals, ensuring that our stock is very modern and is maintained in top nick.
We have always been mindful of the significant costs incurred by companies when critical equipment is non-operational and fleet reliability has always been at the top of our priorities list.
